Pousada Picinguaba is hidden at the end of the tiny fishing village of Picinguaba, 30 minutes south of Paraty. It overlooks a tranquil bay in the heart of Serro do Mar National Park.

The whitewashed rustic exterior of this hotel is reflected in the simplicity of its rooms, which are decorated with Brazilian artworks and have private balconies with hammocks, where you can loll and listen to the hummingbirds. Honeymooners will love the honeymoon suite, which comes with a Jacuzzi and gorgeous views over the tropical gardens and the ocean. Families and larger groups should choose the Villa Casa Verde, which consists of two rooms and a suite and can accommodate up to six people.

Food & Drink

With many ingredients grown on the organic farm of sister hotel Fazenda Catucaba, including coffee from its estate, Pousada Picinguaba's organic restaurant uses the freshest local produce to create sumptuous gourmet meals. Enjoy freshly-baked bread and cakes including pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), fruit, milk and honey. Tuck into large helpings of fresh fish and seafood from the bay along with cunha mushrooms, gold bananas and fresh grilled palm hearts from the rainforest.

In the evening, sip a caipirinha, made with the pousada's own cachaca and organic lemons, while taking in the sea views from the deck.


Facilities include a sauna and a swimming pool, and you can also treat yourself to spa treatments.

Pousada Picinguaba is a 4-hour drive from the international airports in Rio and Sao Paolo. Helicopter transfers can be arranged (a 45-minute flight from Rio to Paraty, followed by a 30-minute car transfer).
