Fazenda Catucaba is a true rural idyll situated amongst countryside and rolling hills halfway between Sao Paulo and its sister hotel, Pousada Picinguaba, on the coast. The hotel sits in over 1,000 acres of countryside, including an operational organic farm, rivers and lakes, with expansive views from the mountaintops. The traditional 1850s casarao (main house) is the hotel's centrepiece and the rooms and suites are in three charming farmhouses, overlooking the valley and the forested hillsides.
Perfect forFazenda Catucaba offers both relaxation and immersion in the great outdoors, alongside the benefits of homegrown, sustainable food from the farm, including coffee and cachaca. Nothing here disturbs nature's peace - including no TV or internet - allowing for true relaxation. This is a place to enjoy the rich local culture and to hike or ride in the stunning nearby valleys bordering the state park.
In the knowThis place gets under your skin and you’ll feel so at home you’ll wish you didn’t have to leave - but when you do, we recommend combining Fazenda Catucaba with its sister hotel, Pousada Picinguaba, to extend the rural idyll.

Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Fazenda Catucaba is set on a beautiful coffee estate between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. It is half an hour from the historic and colourful town of Sao Luiz do Paraitinga.

Rooms at Fazenda Catucaba

The 10 characterful rooms and suites feature restored wood, bricks and tiles, and have comfortable beds with Egyptian linen, black-stone bathtubs, cosy fireplaces and terraces to relax on and take in the panoramic countryside views. Each room has a different Brazilian design, inspired by folk art, and showcases local artworks by the fazenda's artists in residence.

Food & Drink

Meals are created with fresh ingredients from the fertile ground around the hotel, cultivated with great care. In the morning enjoy freshly-made breads including pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), jams, honey and coffee of course (this region once produced 90% of the world's production and ensured the prosperity of Sao Paulo). Dishes you can try throughout the day include fruit pies, local recipes such as stuffed duck with manioc (cassava), tasty salads, farm eggs, meat from the cows... this list goes on.

In the evening, enjoy a caipirinha or two around the fireplace, made with the fazenda’s very own organic sugar-cane cachaca and lemons, before tucking into beef from the picanha (barbecue).

Facilities

The main house, surrounded by extensive grounds,  is the heart of the fazenda, and features the main kitchen, dining areas and a reading room.

Activities at Fazenda Catucaba

The region around Fazenda Catucaba is one of the most beautiful and less well-known parts of Brazil. Whether you feel energetic or lazy, you will find everything you need in this extraordinarily rich natural environment, which combines lakes, forests and mountains.

Activities include horse riding, hiking, visits to waterfalls, swimming in lakes and rivers and rafting, as well as birdwatching, abseiling and tree climbing.
