Hotel Overview

Sense of place

The hotel’s design reflects the rugged beauty of the landscapes of the Quebrada del Toro, with extensive use of stone and wood throughout; the region’s indigenous culture is celebrated in the ponchos, tapestries and other handicrafts which adorn the walls.

Rooms at Hotel de las Nubes

Rooms at Hotel de las Nubes are comfortable, simple, and no-frills, with a minimalist décor of whitewashed walls, dark wood furnishings, and wooden shutters. Rooms feature flatscreen TVs and clean, pleasant en-suite bathrooms; they overlook the town of San Antonio de los Cobres.

Food & Drink

The hotel’s restaurant specialises in comforting regional dishes, perfect for warming up after a day in the high-altitude air; specialities include llama stew, rich lentil soups, and pastel de choclo, a type of sweetcorn-based pie. This being Argentina, asado-style grilled meats and barbecue also feature heavily on the menu.

The hotel’s centrepiece is its pleasant living room, which features a huge stone fireplace, a bar, and comfy sofas, with regional artworks and handicrafts adorning the walls. This is a great place to meet your fellow guests and swap stories about your adventures.

Activities at Hotel de las Nubes

The star attraction in this part of the world is the Tren a las Nubes – the ‘Train to the Clouds’ – which is among the highest railways in the world and is a popular tourist activity. Heading through the Lerma Valley and the technicolour Quebrada del Toro, it also passes the ancient ruins of Tastil and makes for an incredibly scenic ride. Free transfers to and from the train are available from the hotel. San Antonio de los Cobres itself is a typical Salta town, where you can experience traditional Andean life; the artisans’ fair, just a stone’s throw from the hotel, is a great place to pick up traditional garments woven from alpaca, llama and vicuna wool.
