The hotel sits at nearly 3,500 metres above sea level, making for some pretty spectacular views over the Puna gasslands. The surrounding landscapes of high-altitude desert have a moon-like quality, and their rugged beauty is reflected in the organic aesthetic of the hotel.

Food at the hosteria’s restaurant is simple and hearty, based on traditional regional recipes and using fresh local produce. Food is accompanied by an extensive wine list which showcases the very best of Argentinean produce. Packed lunches are also provided to take with you on your excursions.

Activities at Hosteria El Penon

The nearby Laguna Grande is a spectacular spot, where tens of thousands of pink flamingos come to gather and drink against the backdrop of the Campo di Piedra Pomez pumice field. The otherworldly desert landscapes in the surrounding area also include the Pomez and Carachi pampa fields, the Galan volcanic crater, and the Seca and Real Grande gorge. A range of excursions depart from the hotel, catering to various fitness levels and lasting from a few hours to several days.
