Hotel Overview

Sense of place

The Nahuel Huapi region was the first in Argentina to be given national park status, and it’s not difficult to see why: it’s a stunning place, with rivers, waterfalls, glaciers and forests looked over by the mighty Andes Mountains. While it’s recommended that you get stuck in and explore, you’d be forgiven for putting your feet up and taking in the view from your room, or from the glass-fronted spa.

Rooms at Las Balsas

Rooms and suites at Las Balsas are homely and rustic in design, with beautiful pine floors and columns and lovely wicker furniture. Bathrooms feature classic clawfoot tubs from which you can enjoy spectacular views over Lake Nahuel Huapi. Studio Suites have a slightly more contemporary look and a reading area overlooking the lake, while Lago Rooms have a cosy, alpine feel with wood-panelled walls.

Food & Drink

Las Balsas’ restaurant serves a range of exquisitely presented dishes based on locally foraged lakeside ingredients, such as hearty mushroom risotto and grilled trout. Dishes are accompanied by a wide selection of fine Mendoza wines, and served overlooking the lake in the beautiful restaurant, which has a lodge-like feel and a pine-panelled ceiling. Each afternoon, a traditional tea ceremony sees a extensive spread of sandwiches and pastries accompanied by a range of teas, including the hotel’s very own blend.

Facilities

The stunning wood-and-glass spa sits at the front of the hotel overlooking the lake, and features an indoor/outdoor pool divided by a glass wall, so you can enjoy the view even in the cooler months. A range of treatments are on offer, including mud therapy, body scrubs, and massages.

Activities at Las Balsas

With it right on your doorstep, there’s no excuse not to explore Lake Nahuel Huapi, and kayaks are available for guests to use at the hotel; if you’re more of a landlubber, there are a range of beautiful walking trails which meander around the lake. For a classic Argentinean cultural experience, tango performances are regularly held during dinner at the hotel, courtesy of Lucia Mazer, one of the country’s leading exponents of the art.
