The Surrey has nearly 200 rooms, each stylishly decorated in greys, whites and blacks and contemporary furniture, yet still retaining a residential feel in their hand-painted wardrobes, vanity mirrors and cosy sitting areas. Tailor-made Duxiana mattresses, Italian Sferra linens and a selection of pillows make for a good night’s sleep, while the white marble bathrooms have exclusive Italian toiletries, and some feature deep-soaking tubs.

Food and facilities

Café Boulud focuses on classic French cuisine using seasonal American ingredients, which has earned the restaurant a Michelin star and rave reviews (in-room dining is also available). The monochrome Chanel-inspired Bar Pleiades is the hotel’s chic cocktail bar and meeting place. The Cornelia spa has a selection of massages and beauty treatments and the state-of-the-art gym is open to guests 24 hours a day. There’s also a rooftop garden on the 17th floor with panoramic views for those in need of a break from the city, and bicycles for guests who fancy a ride through Central Park.

The Met Museum and the Gagosian are within walking distance, as are Madison Avenue’s range of designer boutiques.
