Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

The Vanderbilt has a pretty setting overlooking Newport harbour and the historic Thames Street on Rhode Island.

Rooms at The Vanderbilt

The elegant rooms and suites overlook the harbour, historic Newport or the private gardens. The interiors are truly beautiful, with a classic New England palette and white-panelled walls, alongside plush beds, curated mini-bars and large windows that let the light stream in. The two-bedroom suites are perfect for families and anyone looking for even more space and luxury. Staying here, you’ll feel more like you’re in a grand apartment than a hotel room.

Food & Drink

Clam chowder and smoked lobster will definitely be on the menu here (you can even help to harvest lobster and learn how to cook it with the expert chefs), but the real pleasure lies in reliving days gone by in the Vanderbilt Grill restaurant, where you’ll feast on beautiful, expertly-prepared dishes beneath chandeliers and often be accompanied by a pianist.

Enjoy a relaxed lunch on the Garden Terrace and Gatsby-era cocktails in the bar, accompanied by the sounds of the Jazz Age. The Roof Deck has lovely Newport views, and is the perfect spot for a genteel afternoon tea or for settling into an Adirondack chair to watch the sun set over the harbour.

Facilities

Work out in the fitness centre or relax in the spa, which has treatment rooms, steam showers and a sauna. Treatments feature natural botanicals and seasonal fruits, or try the signature hot stone massage, featuring stones that have been washed by the Atlantic Ocean. Have a swim in one of the two pools - one is indoor and one is outdoor, so you can swim at any time of year.

Activities at The Vanderbilt

Sailing is of course one of the major things to do in Newport, but it’s also lovely to just soak up the yachty scene: take a coastal walk above the historic buildings and churches of Thames Street, or enter the world of the Gilded Age elite on a guided mansion tour.
