The hotel’s vast grounds, including several golf courses, are an oasis of green in the desolate desert beauty of the Coachella Valley. Nearby Palm Springs is awash with vintage glamour; a former playground for the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, it’s still home to some great mid-century modern architecture and fantastic dining and drinking.

Accommodation at La Quinta Palm Springs is spread between luxurious casitas, suites and villas, dotted among the hotel’s lush grounds. The Spanish-inspired casitas feature adobe-style walls, brick fireplaces and brightly hand-painted tiled bathrooms, as well as secluded private patios. The suites feature an elegant, traditional décor, with plush rugs on terracotta-tiled floors, rich leather armchairs and carved wood furniture. Most exclusive of all are the villas, spacious properties which sit near the hotel spa. With seven restaurants, bars and cafés to choose from, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to eating and drinking at La Quinta Palm Springs. Adobe Grill serves up delicious Mexican food, with a particularly good line in tamales, while the Centre Court Café offers burgers, sandwiches and other classic American dishes. Ernie’s does classic pub fare in view of the golf course, and MD Grill is the place to go for wings, chilli, and yet more sandwiches and burgers. The hotel’s flagship dining venue is Morgan’s in the Desert, where you’ll enjoy the finest produce from the farmland of the Coachella Valley. Twenty6 offers American bistro food, while there’s Australian cuisine at Wallaby’s West.

Ride into nearby Palm Springs and you’ll find superb restaurants and bars, and a thriving art scene – Palm Springs Art Museum is a good place to start, with works from the pre-Columbian era to the modern day. For the best views over the city and the desert, ride the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, which soars to a spectacular 6,000ft.
