Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Just off the iconic Highway One, Glen Oaks is accessible by Big Sur’s standards but feels secluded, surrounded by redwood groves and lying on the edge of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.

Rooms at Glen Oaks

The Adobe Motor Lodge is divided into King and Queen guest rooms, which differ in the size of the beds but share many features, including recycled peroba wood and bamboo furniture. The Oak Tree Cottages comprise the Cottage, a rustic one-bedroom house with a private deck overlooking the woods and Archies, a comfortable studio cottage.

There is a further collection of cabins in the Redwood Grove, all rustic in design and perfect for enjoying the beauty and solitude of the forest.

Food & drink

At Big Sur Roadhouse, delicious California cuisine is served using only fresh, seasonal produce sourced from the local area. Designed by San Francisco artist Steve Justrich, it’s decorated in a modernist style which uses woods and organic materials to reflect its natural surroundings. Also nearby are Big Sur Bakery, where you can enjoy traditional American comfort food in an old ranch house, and family-run Nepenthe, a Highway One icon which serves simple, traditional dishes.

A holiday to Big Sur is all about disconnecting from the chaos of modern life and reconnecting with nature, and as such there are no televisions here. There is Wi-Fi, however, and some rooms feature small refrigerators and microwaves, where you can heat up the complimentary instant oatmeal for a quick breakfast.

Activities at Glen Oaks

Glen Oaks lies on the edge of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, the largest of its kind in Big Sur, which has numerous beautiful hiking trails through the redwood forests. The most popular ascends to the top of Pfeiffer Falls, a picturesque, 60ft-high waterfall. Also very close by is the Henry Miller Memorial Library, where cultural events pay tribute to the literary giants who have called Big Sur home such as Miller and Beat icon Jack Kerouac.

When evening falls, cabins in the Redwood Grove feature wood burning fire pits, around which you can sit and simply enjoy being under the stars and surrounded by magnificent redwoods.
