Tucked away in the heart of Ontario’s forests.

The retreat’s 50 rooms are split into 1-12 bedroom lodges. 13 rustic cabins are bedecked with antique pine furnishings, cosy stone fireplaces, picture-perfect lake views and handmade quilts. Living room spaces are shared between some cabins, so couples might want to ask for private lodgings.

A sign outside the dining room door says “I moose be dreaming”, and once you’ve tasted the lovingly prepared food, you might just think that. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served in the lodge’s stunning hexagonal dining room, though you might also get an impromptu BBQ beside the lake. Summer berry tarts, roasted venison, local cheeses and healthy treats feature on the menu; luckily, seconds and thirds are encouraged.

Swimming, sailing, kayaking, bird-watching, hiking and canoeing are just some of the activities on offer. The retreat will arrange a picnic if you want to head out on a hike, and romantics will enjoy the private sauna perched on the lake’s edge. There’s no TV or internet, so rainy afternoons are spent in the games room, or curling up with a good read beside the fire.
