Summit Lodge

Location: British Columbia | Canada

Price guide: £££££ £100-£200 per person per night

Summit Lodge is a stylish boutique hotel, and a sense of urban cool pervades throughout, from the welcoming communal areas to the supremely stylish guestrooms. Nods to Whistler’s natural environment are evident, though, in the wood-panelled walls, stone fireplaces and wall art depicting bears and other scenes from nature. This hotel is full of surprises, from the jazzy décor to the in-house restaurants (one tapas, one Japanese), and offers an urban, contemporary alternative to Whistler’s mountain ski lodges.

Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Summit Lodge is in the heart of Whistler, just a stone’s throw away from Whistler and Blackcomb mountains.

Rooms at Summit Lodge

The suites and ‘studios’ at Summit Lodge combine a colourful contemporary design with all the facilities you’ll need to feel at home. Deluxe Studios have fully equipped kitchenettes, allowing you to self-cater, and modern, abstract wall murals. One Bedroom Suites are slightly more spacious, with a separate sleeping area, kitchenette and more traditional design, with wooden furnishings and a sophisticated colour scheme of burgundy and grey.

Food & Drink

The hotel is home to two restaurants: the Elements Urban Tapas Parlour, and Japanese restaurant Sachi Sushi. At the former, inventive tapas dishes are served up using regional local produce, such as Vancouver Island cheeses and seafood from the Pacific Coast; locals also love the breakfasts. At Sachi Sushi, some of the best Japanese food in Whistler is on offer in an atmospheric, traditional setting.

Facilities

After a day on the slopes or exploring Whistler’s beautiful countryside, nothing’s more appealing than a dip in the hotel’s outdoor hot tub or pool, or warming up with a session in the natural cedar sauna. For even greater relaxation, make for the Taman Sari spa, where a range of traditional Javanese therapies are on offer to help you unwind.

Activities at Summit Lodge

Whistler is a great destination for adventure lovers year-round. Most famously, of course, it’s a world-class ski resort, but if you’re visiting in the winter you should also take the opportunity to try some more unusual snowy activities, like catskiing, ice tubing and snowshoeing. The summer, meanwhile, is a great time to spot bears, with a range of guided tours on offer to let you safely experience bear dens and feeding sites in the forest. Other summer activities include canoeing on Alta Lake and exploring the Callaghan Valley in an all-terrain vehicle.
