Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Owners Jurgen and Farida have lovingly restored the historic building to be beautifully stylish while retaining an atmosphere of homeliness and warmth. Original artworks, family photos and decorative touches such as cut flowers all combine to cerate the impression of a stylish, comfortable family home.

Rooms at La Tangerina

La Tangerina’s ten guest rooms are spread over four floors, above an enclosed central courtyard and below a beautiful roof terrace. The rooms are traditionally decorated, and have lovely features including carved wooden shutters and Moorish arches. The walls are painted in a tasteful hue of powder blue; the perfect match for the ocean views outside your window.

Food & Drink

In keeping with the atmosphere of the hotel, eating at La Tangerina is a communal activity and food is home-cooked and traditional. Breakfasts include Moroccan semi-leavened bread, jam, cheese and fruits; after a day exploring Tangier you can put your feet up with traditional Moroccan afternoon tea, accompanied by pastries. Dinner is where the food really shines, though: multi-course feasts, beginning with harira soup, followed by tagines or pastilla, and finished off with a dessert of fresh fruit salad.

Facilities

La Tangerina is home to a beautiful traditional hammam, with mosaic-tiled walls, high ceilings and vaulted arches. The hammam is an original part of the old building and is the perfect place to relax as Moroccans have done for centuries; argan oil massages are available from trained therapists.

Activities at La Tangerina

Tangier’s rich and fascinating history has long inspired writers and artists, from William Burroughs to Henri Matisse, and La Tangerina’s location in the city’s historic medina is perfect for getting to grips with the city. The Kasbah Museum of Mediterranean Cultures contains fascinating exhibits on the city’s long history as a crossroads of the Arabian and the Mediterranean. Attractions further afield include the Caves of Hercules, where the mythical hero is said to have rested after completing his 12 labours.
