Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Villa Zagora is surrounded by natural beauty, sitting in the scenic Draa Valley in the palm oasis of Zagora. The mountain of the same name looms on one side, while beyond the desolate beauty of the desert stretches as far as the eye can see.

Rooms at Villa Zagora

There’s a range of accommodation options at Villa Zagora. To get a little closer to the clear night skies, you can sleep on the private roof terrace under a Berber tent. Rooms in the riad follow the building’s classical Moroccan aesthetic, with rough-hewn walls and atmospheric lamp lighting, but are offset with contemporary touches such as modern artworks on the walls. The suites feature private terraces overlooking either the garden, the mountains, or Zagora’s palm grove.

Food & Drink

In keeping with Villa Zagora’s homely atmosphere, much of the food is homemade; breakfast consists of home-baked bread, freshly pressed orange juice, homemade preserves and Moroccan pastries. For lunch, picnic baskets are lovingly prepared for you to take with you on your excursions, and at dinner, a range of Moroccan specialities are on offer including pigeon pastilla, steamed lamb tagine, and couscous dishes.

Facilities

Villa Zagora’s outdoor swimming pool, set in the beautiful garden and shaded by palm trees, is the perfect spot to cool off after a day in the desert. For those chilly nights, the riad has a cosy lounge with a library, board games and magazines to keep you occupied, and fireplaces to make sure you stay warm.

Activities at Villa Zagora

Zagora is the last city on the road into the Sahara, and as such is the perfect jumping-off point for adventures in the desert. Half-day trips on offer include a visit to Tamegroute, famous for its green-glazed pottery, which is a great place to pick up a souvenir; and the ancient Libyco-Berber stone engravings at Foum Chenna. A full-day trip could take you out to the desert town of Tazzarine, home to rock artworks of animals which date back to 5000BC.
