Sense of Place

Erg Chigaga is one of the two Moroccan slices of the Sahara, a sea of golden sand dunes, camels and crystal-clear night skies. The private camp, set apart from the main camp, offers ultimate exclusivity and privacy with all the same facilities and activities as the main camp.

Rooms at Erg Chigaga Luxury Private Camp

The private camp features a handful of tents, which combine a wilderness setting with comfortable accommodation. The tents feature king-size beds and are furnished with plush rugs, full-length mirrors and armchairs, and lit by solar-powered lamps. All the furnishings are hand-made in Morocco. The tents have private bathrooms with toilets, dressing tables and pewter buckets for washing.

Food & Drink

Food at Erg Chigaga is traditionally Moroccan, with hearty tagines and stews on offer alongside light salads and couscous dishes. The food is particularly varied considering the camp’s remote location, and special dietary requirements will happily be catered for in advance. Dinner is served under the stars, and will often be accompanied or followed by a live musical performance. An extensive range of drinks, including beer and wine, are available throughout the day.

Facilities

There are daybed areas and plenty of places to relax on some cushions with a good book. In the evening, take in the tranquil desert setting around the wood-burning fire, share stories with your fellow travellers, do some stargazing and enjoy traditional Berber music.

Activities at Erg Chigaga Luxury Private Camp

If you can bear the early start, a walk out into the sand dunes for sunrise is a beautiful way to start the day. There are several ways to explore the dunes, from quad biking and guided walks to sandboarding, while a ride on a camel – the ‘ships of the desert’ – remains a classic desert activity. A picnic lunch is also recommended - either in the desolation of the sand dunes or at a nearby oasis, which sits seven kilometres away.
