Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

The Zagora region is an oasis of date palms bursting from the desert, with a rich traditional culture. Dar Azawad sits in the village of M’hamid el Ghrizlane, home to ancient Kasbahs and traditional ethnic groups, hemmed in by miles and miles of rolling sand dunes.

Rooms at Dar Azawad

The luxurious rooms and suites at Dar Azawad are built in a traditional Moroccan style with rough-hewn adobe-style walls, ornate mirrors and wall tapestries, and beautiful mosaic tiled floors. The Sultan’s Suite features a private garden overlooking the palm grove and the sand duns beyond, while the Suites of the Dunes features high Moroccan arches, beautiful mosaics and Tataouine-style wooden ceilings.

Food & Drink

Food at Dar Azawad is traditional and authentically Moroccan, drawing on the rich culinary traditions of the region to serve up delicious dishes which are surprisingly varied given the hotel’s remote location. Vegetables used in the restaurant’s dishes often come from the hotel’s very own vegetable garden.

Facilities

Dar Azawad’s outdoor pool is just the thing for cooling off from the desert sun, but it’s also heated so you can enjoy it during those chilly evenings or during colder weather. The hotel garden is something of an oasis, bursting with acacia, mint, basil and cotton plants, and a beautiful place to relax, while a range of wellness treatments are on offer at the hammam and spa.

Activities at Dar Azawad

M’hamid has a long and rich history, as a meeting point for the cultures of Bounou Berbers, Ouled Driss Arabs and wandering nomadic peoples; you can learn about all of them at the Museum of Traditional Nomadic Life, before enjoying a traditional dinner with local people then embarking on a dromedary ride through the sand dunes. There are seven traditional Kasbahs in the area around the hotel, beyond which lies a sea of sand dunes as far as the eye can see.
