Hotel Overview

Sense of place

In the heart of the Sahara desert – in the Chigaga dunes, well away from pretty much anything.

Tents at the Azalai Desert Camp

There are four white marquee-style tents each with a wrought iron canopied double bed, a mosquito net, small living area, and private bathroom.

Food & drink

On arrival, you’ll be met with a thirst-quenching lemon and mint tea, followed by an evening meal on the dunes as you watch the stars come out. After your traditional tagine and delicious chocolate soufflé, claim a pouffe and warm yourself by the tamarisk log fire – one of our favourite ways to end an evening on holiday.

Facilities

Outside of the tents, armchairs, leather couches and tables are set up on the sand, where you can take in the calm and silence of the sands. There is also a lounge tent, which is ideal for escaping the heat of the day with a good book.

Activities at Azalai Desert Camp

At the camp, your mornings and afternoons will be spent venturing into the surrounding dunes either on foot, on camel or in a 4x4. As you are quite literally miles away from everything, the camp also offers some of the best star gazing in the world so don’t be shy and ask the staff for special sightings of Orion’s Belt, the Southern Cross and galaxies 100,000 light years in diameter.

Hotel location

3 hours’ drive by 4x4 from Zagora.
