Touda Ecolodge

Sitting at the foot of the mighty mountain M’Goun, in the traditional Zawyat Oulmzi village and overlooking the Ait Bougmez Valley, Touda Ecolodge certainly isn’t lacking a dramatic location. In keeping with your surroundings, you’ll experience a warm Berber welcome when you arrive at the guesthouse and throughout your stay.

Touda Ecolodge has just eight guest rooms, a deliberate step to preserve and respect the village’s quiet ambience. This, combined with the lodge’s traditional construction, lends the rooms a homely atmosphere. They’re very comfortable, with plush beds and seating areas, and feature authentic Moroccan décor such as tadelakt bathrooms, Moorish rugs and lamps, and stone fireplaces.

As you might expect, the food at Touda Ecolodge is a traditionally Moroccan affair, with dishes that bring together the rich Berber, Arab and Andalusian influences which make Moroccan cuisine so unique. Expect to enjoy classic dishes such as tagines, birouates, hearty soups and skewered meats – you can even learn to cook some of them yourself during classes with the lodge’s chef.

The lodge has its own hammam, made from tadelakt plaster in the traditional Moroccan style, which you can enjoy each late afternoon – the perfect way to relax after a day’s exploration in the great outdoors.
 

Hiking in the beautiful landscapes surrounding the lodge is a popular activity here, and the staff can offer a wide range of programmes, from leisurely strolls followed by a hammam to multi-day hikes into the wilderness. The nearby village of Iqwaliben is home to dinosaur remains, while the small town of Tabant – around 3.5 hours’ hike away – plays host to a bustling market. The beautiful Ait Bougmez Valley, dotted with traditional Berber villages, lends itself very well to mountain biking.
