Hacienda Puerta Campeche

A historic atmosphere pervades Puerta Campeche, with many remaining walls and other features of the original hacienda; inside and out, the pastel yellows and oranges lend the place a splash of colour.

Hacienda Puerta Campeche features 15 guest rooms and suites, each housed within the original 17^th century buildings and boasting original features such as high ceilings, exposed beams and rafters, huge wooden doors, cabinets carved from dark, tropical hardwood, and tile floors which are pleasantly cool on your feet. Hanging from the walls are woven cotton hammocks of the kind for which Yucatan is famous, meaning you can kip in classic Mayan style.

Dining at Hacienda Puerta Campeche takes place in one of two venues: the indoor La Guardia restaurant, a beautiful space with exposed stone walls, ceiling beams and tiled floors, in a historic part of the property; and Terrazza, an informal space up on the roof with great views over Campeche. The menu is varied and changes constantly, ranging from Mexican-style tapas to international dishes; food is accompanied by an extensive menu of cocktails and wine.

The hotel features a lovely outdoor pool in an evocative spot, sandwiched between two original walls of the historic hacienda – perfect for cooling off after a day’s exploration in Campeche. Spa treatments are also available on request, and there’s also a small gift shop.

History and culture buffs will love Campeche, one of Mexico’s most beautiful cities. Its streets are packed with beautiful colonial architecture, but the area’s history goes back much further than that; Calakmul is the largest Mayan city ever discovered, and its ancient pyramids, rising from thick jungle, date from at least the 5^th century. Equally stunning is Edzna, an even older city, where regular multimedia and light shows add an extra dimension to the ancient structures.
