Hotel Overview

Sense of place

The hotel retains many of its period features from the original building, but these have been incorporated into a stylish boutique space, dotted with modern artworks and unusual design features. The staff are very friendly and will gladly help you arrange excursions into Puebla and beyond.

Rooms at Casareyna

Casareyna’s rooms and suites combine modern design touches with rustic features such as stone walls and wooden ceiling beams. They are decorated with hand-carved furniture courtesy of artist Esteban Chapital, and the walls are adorned with the works of renowned Mexican painters. The bathrooms are carved from beautiful marble, and the wooden floors are covered with exquisite Mexican rugs and textiles.

Food & Drink

The restaurant at Casareyna serves up authentic Puebla cuisine in hearty portions, using locally-sourced meat and vegetables to serve up classic regional dishes such as stuffed poblano chillies, prickly pear and goat. Adventurous gourmands will relish the opportunity to try some of the region’s more unusual dishes, such as escamole (ants harvested from tequila agave plants) and maguey worms (edible caterpillars).

Facilities

Casareyna’s outdoor pool, hemmed in by eye-catching pink walls, is a lovely spot to relax, cool off from the afternoon sun, and enjoy a cocktail or a light lunch. Casareyna’s sister company, Talavera de le Reyna, is an art workshop which creates prints, sculptures and wall hangings among many other pieces. The hotel has an onsite boutique where you can buy the workshop’s products at cost price – a brilliant gift or souvenir.

Activities at Casareyna

Casareyna’s location is perfect for exploring the historic heart of Puebla, which is home to some beautiful colonial architecture. There are no fewer than 70 historic churches in the city centre, chief among which is the beautiful cathedral, which dates back to the mid-1500s. The Casa de la Cultura, a former bishop’s palace, today houses art galleries, a bookshop and a cinema, while the Amparo Museum goes further back in time, telling the story of Puebla’s pre-Hispanic history with a range of fantastic collections.
