Hotel Overview

Sense of place

The hotel has been beautifully restored and retains much of its original character, which has been enhanced by the artworks and antiques used to decorate it. It’s a labour of love for owners Didier and Emma, who imbue the property with a friendliness and homely atmosphere.

Rooms at Casa de la Real Aduana

There are just five guest rooms at Casa de la Real Aduana, each one uniquely designed to be supremely comfortable while retaining the historic character of the 16th-century manor house. This character is evident in the stone-tiled floors and in the ceilings – some of them painted with frescoes, and some covered in wooden beams. The rooms are decorated with carved wooden furniture and beautiful patterned rugs.

Food & Drink

Breakfast at Casa de la Real Aduana is an extensive affair; a hearty spread of eggs, home-baked bread, fresh fruit and juice, served alongside regional cooked specialities such as corundas accompanied by guacamole. At dinner, international cuisine is served alongside a selection wines and local mezcal spirits.

Facilities

There is not a designated spa, but massage treatments can be arranged on request.

Activities at Casa de la Real Aduana

Patzcuaro is a charming town famous for its beautiful lake, surrounding Purhepecha Indian villages, pre-Hispanic pyramids and colonial architecture. In the town itself, the beautiful Plaza Vasco de Quiroga, a colonial square with lovely gardens, is well worth a visit. A Purhepecha village is a great place to pick up a souvenir, as the skilled craftspeople create beautiful handicrafts from wood, stone, pottery and more. A range of guided tours can be organized to help you explore the local area.
