Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Lapa Rios sits at the tip of the Osa Peninsula, where the gulf meets the ocean, in one of the most unspoilt parts of Costa Rica. This south-western corner showcases dense tropical forest and a wild coastline.

Rooms at Lapa Rios

It's all about nature at Lapa Rios: your daily alarm is likely to be the sounds of exotic birds and howler monkeys, followed by a cup of smooth Costa Rican coffee. Nestled in the rainforest, the standalone, airy and spacious rooms, including beautiful villas with private plunge pools, are decorated with bamboo furniture, warm wooden floors and mosquito net-draped beds, accented with bright textiles.

Walls can be left open to the elements or screened with bamboo blinds. You can observe or even be observed by monkeys, macaws, toucans or sloths while taking an outdoor shower, and the views over the forest canopy to the endless Pacific Ocean from your private deck are awesome.

Food & Drink

Dine on fresh seafood, exotic fruit, and organic produce in the open-air dining room under the soaring thatch roof.

Facilities

After a day spent exploring nature's playground, relax by the pool, indulge in a spa treatment or rebalance your body and mind with yoga on the yoga deck.

Activities at Lapa Rios

Where to start? Hike through the remote and unspoiled rainforest, go wildlife spotting and birdwatching, and even take a night walk. See several species of monkey in the trees surrounding the lodge, as well as colourful macaws and toucans. Enjoy tours with the excellent naturalist guides, with tours tailored to you and activities for all ages and abilities.

It's just a short walk to the beach, which is perfect for swimming and surfing, or go horse riding on the sands or kayaking. At certain times of year you'll be able to see turtles, dolphins and whales.

Find out more about the hotel's impressive eco credentials by meeting science researchers, learning about the jaguar conservation project and visiting a local school to see how your stay is having a positive impact on the local community.
