Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Surrounded by soaring mountains, lush valleys and vivid green tea plantations as far as the eye can see, Madulkelle enjoys truly beautiful surroundings. The hotel sits a thousand metres above sea level in the Knuckles Mountain Range, and has correspondingly magnificent views.

Rooms at Madulkelle Tea & Eco Lodge

Accommodation at Madulkelle is spread across 18 luxurious standalone tents, appointed in an opulent Old World safari style with a big front porch from which you can take in the incredible views. Tents feature full bathroom facilities, with walk-in showers and separate toilets. The Honeymoon Suite is truly incredible, taking glamping to a whole new level with opulent dark wood furnishings, private dining, a large indoor seating area and outdoor terrace.

Food and drink

In keeping with the hotel’s eco-friendly ethos, ingredients are always organic, fresh and locally sourced, whipped up into delicious, healthy traditional dishes like mutton and coconut curry and chickpea dhal. The chef is an expert in Ayurveda, and dishes are prepared according to this ancient tradition.

Facilities

Madulkelle’s spa can boast views which surely rival those of any other in the world, with baths submerged in a beautiful infinity pool overlooking the mountains. Private treatments are available in the spa tents, with a range of holistic treatments on offer courtesy of the team of highly skilled therapists.

Activities at Madulkelle Tea & Eco Lodge

The surrounding tea plantations are fascinating places to visit and discover how your much-loved cuppa comes to be, right from the source; tastings are also available, needless to say. Madulkelle may feel a million miles away from anywhere, but the attractions of Kandy are within easy reach over the hills; check out the famed Temple of the Tooth, apparently home to a dental relic of the Buddha. Also nearby are the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, and the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawela.
