Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Goatfell is perched on a working tea estate in Kandapola, just 30 minutes from Nuwara Eliya, in the heart of Sri Lanka's hill country, surrounded by rolling hills covered in tea bushes.

Rooms at Goatfell

There are just four bedrooms here, guaranteeing privacy and seclusion. Set in the old plantation house, they are a beautiful blend of period features from the century-old bungalow and modern design touches. The walls are painted in tasteful olive tones, and the floors are of polished wood, topped with rattan rugs, while the beds are angular four-posters, and there are elegant living and dining areas. Three of the rooms have French doors which open onto a furnished terrace, while the other one features a cosy living area with a comfy armchair to sink into.

With just a handful of rooms, the service is impeccable and there's a dedicated team of butlers who will tend to your every need and will immediately make you feel at home.

Food & drink

The homely, country feel of the hotel extends to the cuisine: with a focus on gourmet food using only the freshest local ingredients, dining at Goatfell is a real treat. Not only is the food delicious and authentic, but guests can dine in the atmospheric dining room or out on the terrace while taking in the views.

The day begins with a generous breakfast, with both western and Sri Lankan dishes on offer – the classic local breakfast is hoppers, a type of rice pancake accompanied by chutney and dahl. Lunch sees an ever-changing selection of delicious curries, while dinner has a more international feel.

Facilities

There's no shortage of places to kick back and relax (preferably with a cup of local tea in hand), with various covered verandas in the perfectly manicured gardens where you can take in the never-ending views over the hills. There’s also an outdoor infinity pool where you can cool off on hot afternoons, and a cosy living room where you can curl up in front of a log fire on those chilly evenings.

Activities at Goatfell

Tea is the star of the show here, and at Finlays Tea Factory, in walking distance of the hotel, tours and tastings will give you an insight into the world’s favourite drink.

Suitably caffeinated, head out into the hills to explore – local landmarks include World’s End and Adam’s Peak, and when you see them you’ll agree that their dramatic names are justified. Discover the hill country on a scenic hike, and make your way through the woods to the top of Thotupola Kanda, Sri Lanka’s third highest mountain, or stroll around the serene Hakgala Botanical Gardens.
