Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Cape Weligama is 30 minutes east of Galle on Sri Lanka's southern coast, flanked by two almost-deserted beaches.

Rooms at Cape Weligama

Though the exteriors of the free-standing villas and suites have been designed to reflect a traditional Sri Lankan village, their interiors are unmistakably contemporary. Beneath the terracotta-tiled roofs, you’ll find stylish bedrooms, with pattern-printed fabrics, bold wall colours and massive timber headboards, all ringed by a large terrace, a big bathroom, a steam room and a spacious walk-in wardrobe. They are clustered around gardens which each have an infinity pool.

The Ocean View Pool Villa is perched 40m above the sea and features a stunning private 15m infinity-edge pool. Upgrade to this room for incredible views of the ocean and a lavish bathroom that you’ll never want to leave.

Food & drink

Paying homage to its waterfront location, the Ocean Terrace restaurant cooks up the day’s freshest catch selected by you at Pola (which means 'market' in Sinhalese), while the Tableau restaurant is the place to head if you are looking for some delicious seasonal dishes and served in a dramatic setting along the cliff’s edge.

Sample some of the renowned local tea in the Cape Club or take a seat at sunset and gradually switch from a tasty cocktail to a relaxing nightcap as the stars come out.

Facilities

Though the bar is an ideal place to watch the sunset, the 60m crescent-shaped infinity pool also offers a superb setting for catching the last rays of the day. When the moon is up, a large screen is raised by the Moon Pool for convivial movie nights, complete with popcorn, as well as international sporting events with themed drinks.

There is an air-conditioned gym for those looking to stay in shape or, if you want to fully embrace your holiday, take an electric buggy to the Spa Villa for a Sri Lankan spiced body scrub made from homegrown cloves, nutmeg, sweet orange and sandalwood.

Activities at Cape Weligama

The aquamarine bay below the hotel offers legendary curls and quiet coves perfect for paddle boarding, surfing, kayaking and scuba diving. You can hire a boat and go on a sunset cruise or catch a whopper on a fishing excursion. Jump onboard the hotel's luxury catamaran to spot blue whales off the coast or grab a bike and cycle past lilypad lakes, paddy fields, temples and sleepy villages with a guide. A 30-minute drive along the coast will bring you to the historic UNESCO-listed Galle Fort.
