Hotel Overview

Sense of place

In the heart of the 2,500-year-old city of Madurai, with temples nearby. According to legend, Madurai grew from drops of nectar that flowed from the locks of Shiva.

Rooms at Heritage Madurai

The rooms and villas are light and spacious, with attractive wood, terracotta and granite features, and the villas come with their own green leafy courtyards and plunge pools, surrounded by fragrant frangipani trees.

Food and drink

The Banyan restaurant offers Indian specialities, created with fresh, local produce, as well as international favourites. Dine inside, with pretty murals on the walls, or enjoy a meal prepared by your personal chef beneath a 200-year-old Banyan tree, as you are serenaded by birds. There’s also a coffee shop which offers fresh pastries and delicious chocolates as well as coffee, and in the evening, have a sundowner or two in the Swig & Tee bar.

Activities at Heritage Madurai

Take a dip in the beautiful pool, which was designed to replicate the temple tank of the Thirumalai Temple, and unwind with a yoga class or a Swedish or Ayurvedic massage in the spa, accompanied by soothing music and aromatic herbal teas.

Browse the local shops, selling spices and antiques, and visit the Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal palace, with its carved dome, and the impressive 17th-century Meenakshi Amman Temple, a complex covering six hectares, with several towers, or gopurams, displaying thousands of colourful carvings of gods, goddesses, demons and heroes.
