Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Umaid Bhawan Palace is perched atop Chittar Hill, the highest point in Jodhpur, and affords magnificent views over the Blue City, the imposing Mehrangarh Fort, and the sand dunes of the Thar Desert beyond. Built entirely from sandstone and marble, it’s a magnificent monument to Rajasthan’s heritage.

Rooms at Umaid Bhawan Palace

Umaid Bhawan Palace’s 64 luxurious rooms and suites reflect the era in which the hotel was built, with an Art Deco style and magnificent marble bathrooms. The Historical Suites, once reserved as the residences of visiting royalty, are uniquely designed with different colour schemes, from rich maroon to stately gold and green. The Royal Suites feature flooring finished with striking mirrored terrazzo, and the Grand Royal Suites are decorated with period antique furniture. The regal Mahani Suite, meanwhile, was originally designed for the queen, and is finished in pink, black and chrome with an opulent bathroom.

Food & drink

Continental and Indian fusion cuisine is available at the grand Risala restaurant, which has royal and martial portraits looking down from the walls and stunning views over the palace’s beautiful gardens. The aptly-named Pillars café, set beside an imposing colonnade, is a charming spot for a drink and a snack overlooking the Baradari Lawns and Mehrangarh Fort. The cosy Trophy Bar, with its fireplace and wood-panelled walls, serves cocktails and Cuban cigars.

Facilities

The indulgent Jiva Spa is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day’s adventures in city or desert, with a range of rejuvenating treatments on offer and a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi and both indoor and outdoor pools. There is also a gym, yoga studio and squash court. The spa also features a delicious, nutritious wellness menu based on fresh fruit and vegetables, free-range poultry and freshly-caught fish.

Activities at Umaid Bhawan Palace

Jodhpur, known as the Blue City for the uniformly azure buildings of its old town, is one of Rajasthan’s most charming and iconic cities. Towering above the city is the mighty Mehrangarh Fort, which emerges from the rocky outcrop from which it was carved in the 1400s. The fort’s museum contains beautiful collections of local artwork and historic weaponry. In the rocky wasteland next to the fort is the Rao Jodha Desert Park, which was filled with native species in 2006 to showcase and protect the natural ecology of the region; it’s home to an array of birds, butterflies and plant life.
