Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Surrounded by large, landscaped gardens, the Taj West End feels like a secluded country estate despite being in the heart of Bangalore. But maybe that shouldn’t be so surprising, given Bangalore’s justified reputation as India’s ‘Garden City’ – it is blessed with numerous large, green spaces where you can relax and watch the city go by.

Rooms at Taj West End

Taj West End’s 117 spacious rooms and suites are decorated in a traditional, colonial style, as befits the hotel’s history. The Luxury Rooms have private verandas overlooking the Prince of Wales gardens, as do Luxury Grande Rooms; the opulent Taj Club Rooms feature beautiful dark wood furnishing and baize-topped writing desks. The beautiful Tata Suite is the epitome of exclusivity and luxury, a standalone cottage with a huge four-poster bed and antique furniture. There’s also a private plunge pool, and an extravagant marble bathroom.

Food and drink

Foodies will be in heaven at Taj West End, which has a range of dining options, Indian and international, to suit all tastes. At Masala-Klub, inventive twists are given to classic Indian cuisine, with the signature dish being the Murg Khatta Pyaaz with homemade phulkas – there’s also a menu of no fewer than 225 wines to choose from. At Mynt, Indian, Italian, Lebanese and Mediterranean food is served in a relaxed setting, and Blue-Bar serves Vietnamese and Asian grills and cocktails in an al fresco setting surrounded by water and music. The highly-rated Blue Ginger, meanwhile, was one of the first Vietnamese restaurants in India, and is arguably one of the finest.

Facilities

At the Jiva Grande Spa, a range of wellness treatments are on offer which draw on the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda to refresh and reinvigorate you. There’s also a fully-equipped fitness centre so you can keep up your fitness regime, two outdoor swimming pools, and a clay tennis court. Gold and horse riding are also both available on request. Should you need any medical assistance during your stay, the hotel has a doctor and nurse on call 24 hours a day.

Activities at Taj West End

Bangalore is the buzzing, cosmopolitan hub of southern India, the country’s IT capital and one of its most progressive cities. As befits a forward-thinking metropolis, it’s home to a cracking Modern Art Gallery, with a world-class collection of contemporary works as well as pieces from pre-independence India in the Old Wing. Fantastic colonial architecture can be found on the fringes of the green Cubbon Park, while the elegant Tipu Sultan’s Palace, which dates from the 1790s, is a beautiful example of Indo-Islamic architecture.
