Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Set along the banks of Lake Vembanad, the longest lake in India.

Rooms at Purity

The backdrop of the rooms, with their white walls and linens, provide the perfect canvas for vivid splashes of colour. In the deluxe rooms and suites, you’ll see bright greens, reds and yellows in the intricate stained glass windows, geometric-defining fabrics and plush pillows. All rooms have terraces and verandas with views over the lake, air conditioning and artistic bits of vintage Rajasthani palaces and temple carvings. If you have the children in tow, consider booking a Garden or Vembanad Suite, as they can double up as a family room, adding extra beds if needed.

Food and drink

Based on Keralan flavours, the Purity Garden Restaurant offers a menu of home cooked curries and fresh seafood caught in the Backwaters and along the nearby sea shore. Chef Sinajudin offers daily cooking demonstrations, where you can watch him create coconut and tomato Thakkali curry or sautéed marsala mussels in tomato sauce, and afterwards, if the weather is particularly fine, take your meal outside on one of the lakeside tables or in the covered colonnade next to the pool.

Facilities

The Purespa menu ranges from a relaxing Choorna Sweda (a massage with poultice made from rare dry herbs to help firm and tone the muscles) to a 14-day detox programme jam-packed with energizing and traditional treatments. Alternatively, if you are not one for a massage, walk along the jetty and pavilion or hang out by the pool for a relaxing afternoon soaking up the views.

Activities at Purity

Watch the colourful kingfishers and cormorants hovering by the water’s edge, take a shikara ride to the northern shore or simply laze on the sunbeds underneath the palm trees. Watch coconut fibres being woven into household products, in the village of Muhamma with a visit to the 60-year-old coir factory or, for keen birders, venture through the nearby Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary to spot migratory birds, such as the Siberian crane, brahminy kite and marsh harrier.
