The rooms and suites draw on the imposing medieval architecture of the Vijayanagara Empire, with lots of grey stone, rough-hewn walls, Indo-Islamic arches, and heavy, red velvet curtains. The Zenana Palace Suite, inspired by the Queen’s quarters, features separate living, dining and sleeping areas, private balconies, an en suite bathroom and a Jacuzzi – the perfect sanctuary for a romantic getaway. The Nilaya Suite features a large private terrace, and the Nivasa Deluxe Suite has beautiful arched windows and spacious living and sleeping areas separated by sliding screens.

Food and drink

The restaurant, Tuluva, offers an ever-changing menu of regional, Indian and international cuisine, with a particular emphasis on dishes inspired by the Vijayanagara Empire. Food is served in a sumptuous setting with striking marble floors and Islamic arches, with an outdoor area overlooking the infinity pool. The hotel also prides itself on its signature blend of Sidapur coffee, which is a must-try and a great livener at any time of day. The chef will also be happy to make you a packed lunch to take with you on your explorations around Hampi and the surrounding area.

Facilities

The beautiful outdoor infinity pool is surrounded by rocks and carved structures which recall the boulder-strewn environment of Hampi, which the pool overlooks. The hotel also has a beautiful lounge, Deep Mahal, with a patterened marble floor and church-like lighting – the perfect place to curl up with a book and enjoy a cup of the hotel’s signature Sidapur coffee.

There are numerous scenic walking trails through and around Hampi. The Raya Trail takes you back 500 years to buildings built by the Maharajas of Vijayanagara, while the Virupaksha Trail stops off at the temple of the same name, and along the way, you can take in beautiful views from the top of Hermakuta Hill.

Hotel location

The hotel is quite remote and not particularly easy to reach directly by plane – the nearest airport is the provincial Hubli, around 3.5 hours’ drive to the west, which flies daily to and from Bangalore (2hrs). A popular method of transport is the Hampi Express, an overnight train direct from Bangalore. Alternatively Bangalore Airport is around 6 hours’ drive away.
