Hotel Overview

Sense of place

On the shores of the Arabian Sea and a few kilometres from the famous backwaters of Alleppey, Carnoustie enjoys a serene setting, with the golden sands, coconut groves and lotus ponds of Marari Beach right on your doorstep.

Rooms at Carnoustie

Accommodation at Carnoustie takes the form of luxurious villas which blend traditional Keralan and modern architecture. They have thatched roofs and are shaded with palm trees, and have private pools and deck areas as well as, in the case of the Punag villas, outdoor Jacuzzis. Akund Deluxe Villas feature an outdoor deck with a lily pool and are set amid beautiful landscaped gardens.

For the complete Keralan experience, stay in the luxurious Carnoustie houseboat, which has an open lounge, a sundeck and a separate dining area, as well as a full crew including a chef.

Food & drink

Carnoustie serves food from its two top-class restaurants in its beautiful bamboo dining room, a large, round space with tables set around a central bar. Ida serves a range of Indian and international multi-cuisine dishes, on both a buffet and à la carte basis. Chimaera, meanwhile, is the resort’s speciality seafood restaurant, serving up deliciously fresh fish, shellfish and more.

The hotel has an organic garden, which grows fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices which are used by the restaurants’ kitchens.

Facilities

As its name suggests, the hotel has a strong emphasis on the ancient healing wisdom of Ayurveda, and at Aryavaidyasala, this millennia-old tradition continues. The spa uses herbs and spices from the gardens to offer a range of holistic wellness treatments such as deep tissue massages, herbal body scrubs and marine pedicures.

The spa has its own menus offering healthy foods based on the principles of Ayurveda. Guided yoga and mantra sessions are also on offer, suitable for all ability and experience levels.

Activities at Carnoustie

Kerala is famous for its backwaters, and cruises are available on Carnoustie's own luxurious houseboat through the web of rivers, lagoons and palm groves which populate this picturesque, watery landscape. The backwaters have a rich and unique ecosystem, home to numerous species of crabs, frogs, kingfishers, cormorants, and many more. Fishing in a traditional Keralan boat is also an option.

Back on dry land, bikes can be rented to cycle around local villages at your leisure, and the fascinating colonial melting pot of Cochin is not far away. Traditional Keralan music and dance performances are held regularly at the hotel.
