India has a variable climate, and due to its vast size weather conditions depend on what area you are travelling to, with the climate greatly changing as you travel north to south. Broadly speaking, there are three seasons: the hot, the wet (monsoon) and the cool, and each of these vary in duration depending on where you are.
The best time to visit is during the cooler months between November and February, although there are marked regional variations, such as colder nights if you are in western India. If you visit during the summer, where temperatures can reach up to 40°C, head to the Himalayas to escape the heat.
