2 nightsCOCHIN

Your wellness holiday begins in Cochin, a charming port town on the Arabian Sea which has a long history as a meeting point of culture and trade. The influence of Chinese merchants is particularly evident here; one of the city’s icons is the huge Chinese fishing nets which hang above the waterfront. Watching them slowly rise and fall is a strangely meditative experience.

The long history of European colonisation has been important here, too: the St Francis Church was built by the Portuguese in 1503, and is thought to be India’s oldest European church, while the fascinating Pardesi Synagogue is the centre of Cochin’s prominent Jewish community. Cochin’s sleepy pace of life makes it the perfect place to start your wellness break.

Your hotel, Old Harbour, has a beautiful granite infinity pool, and massage treatments are available at the spa and the nearby Ayush Ayurveda centre.

5 nightsALLEPPEY

After two nights in Cochin, you’ll be taken by private transfer to Alleppey (a 1.5-hour journey), where you’ll spend the main bulk of your wellness getaway. You’ll stay for five nights at Carnoustie, a luxurious wellness resort set on pristine beaches and surrounded by tropical gardens.

A range of Ayurveda treatments are on offer at Aryavaidyasala, a beautiful spa set in secluded, thatched-roofed buildings. Keralan herbs and spices are used in organic products to deliver treatments which have existed and been developed over 5,000 years, with massage treatments, yoga and meditation all on offer.

Ayurvedic wisdom also extends to diet, and an extensive wellness menu is on offer here, with herbs and vegetables coming from the hotel’s own garden. Carnoustie offers an impressive yoga programme, and this is a fantastic place for experienced yogis and complete newbies alike – hatha, ashtanga and kriya are just a few of the forms of yoga on offer.

Rejuvenated after five nights of wellness at Carnoustie, you’ll be taken back to Cochin for your onward flight.
