2 nightsJAIPUR

Your journey through Rajasthan begins in the state’s capital, Jaipur. The Pink City – named for its red sandstone buildings – is an eye-catching monument to a long and regal past, which has seen great empires rise and fall over several centuries. The elaborate pink façades of the City Palace and Hawa Mahal, the Palace of the Winds, were built as regal residences of the maharajahs, and the Amber Fort, which rises dramatically on the fringes of the city, is this area’s biggest tourist draw. Jaipur is famous for its arts and crafts, particularly pottery, sculpture and wooden puppets – you can pick up a souvenir on a guided arts and crafts tour. You’ll also get the chance to meet the local Meena people and experience their rich culture on a tribal visit.

Your home for 2 nights is 47 Jobner Bagh, a luxury guesthouse that is in the centre of Jaipur, yet is surrounded by beautiful, tranquil gardens.

3 nightsSHAHPURA

After 2 nights in Jaipur you’ll be taken by private transfer to Shahpura, a short journey of around an hour and a half. Shahpura is a former princely state with a rich history, and being away from Rajasthan’s tourist trail it’s a great place to experience a more unexplored part of this desert kingdom. It’s also something of a desert oasis, thanks to the irrigation efforts of a former maharajah who created a series of artificial lakes here which still bloom with life and greenery today. You’ll stay at Shahpura Bagh, a regal fort transformed into a luxury hotel where cows and peacocks roam the grounds. You’ll take a trip to the enchanting town of Bundi, whose blue-washed buildings evoke vision of a less touristy Jodhpur, and visit the imposing Dhikola Fort.

3 nightsHEERAWAS

Departing Shahpura after 3 nights, you’ll be taken by private transfer to Heerawas, around 5 hours’ drive to the west. A small settlement in the heart of the historic desert region of Marwar, at Heerawas you’ll experience traditional, authentic Rajasthani village life. Your hotel, Mihir Garh, is truly stunning – built in 2009, it recalls the centuries-old forts for which Rajasthan is famous, combining a historic aesthetic with luxurious accommodation and delicious food. You’ll enjoy guided trips into the area’s traditional villages, where you’ll meet local people and experience their rich culture and ways of life. You’ll also learn to cook the delicious Rajasthani cuisine you’ve been savouring at the hotel with culinary workshops with the hotel’s chefs.

3 nightsRANAKPUR

The next stop on your journey through hidden Rajasthan is Ranakpur, around 3 hours by private road transfer to the south. One of the most famous attractions of the Pali region of Rajasthan, Ranakpur is famous for its magnificent architecture, in particular an ornate, marble-hewn Jain temple dating from the 15th century. Your home for the next 3 nights is Rawla Narlai, a luxurious heritage resort nestled in the Aravalli Hills. The resort is home to a 16th-century stepwell of the type for which Rajasthan is famous, and dinner next to the stepwell as it is lit by hundreds of candles is a great way to spend an evening. The wilderness of Godwad which surrounds the hotel is home to many leopards, who you can hope to spot on guided game drives.

2 nightsUDAIPUR

The final stop on your journey through Rajasthan is Udaipur, the beautiful City of Lakes. Renowned as one of the most photogenic and romantic spots in India, Udaipur has long been a favourite of film directors from Bollywood and beyond; the James Bond classic Octopussy was filmed in part at the Lake Palace. A cycle tour is a great way to take in the sights of Udaipur, from the serene shores of Lake Pichola to the martial memorabilia and exhibits at the Durbar Hall. You’ll spend the last 2 nights of your Rajasthani adventure at Raas Devigarh, a beautiful luxury hotel housed in an 18th-century palace. The hotel is surrounded by landscaped gardens and the picturesque Aravalli Hills, and features luxurious suites which retain their historic, aristocratic character – the perfect place to end your journey in regal style.
