Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Chambal Safari Lodge sits in the heart of the Chambal Valley in a beautiful wildlife-rich setting, and has impressive eco credentials: owned by conservationist Ram Pratap Singh and his wife Anu, it is dedicated to conservation and the preservation of its local environment.

Rooms at Chambal Safari Lodge

The 13 homely rooms and cottages are spacious, comfortable and air-conditioned, with features such as wooden-beamed ceilings and period furnishings, pops of colour and views over the countryside. The restored main house, Mela Kothi, has one large room with two verandas, and two suites with private gardens. Another suite, tucked away in a private grove, can be configured as one or two bedrooms to suit you, with a garden that backs onto open farmland.

The cottages are dotted around the gardens, some around a shaded central courtyard, and offer luxury, privacy and seclusion, where you can relax in a hammock in your garden.

Food & Drink

The lodge offers authentic buffets inspired by age-old family recipes, featuring local specialities as well as contemporary western dishes, featuring fresh organic produce frown on the farm or nearby. Enjoy your meals al fresco under the shade of an ancient tree in the gardens – where you can sit with a cup of tea or coffee at any time of day.

FACILITIES

Relax in one of the lounges or on one of the verandas, or unwind with a book in the library, and make the most of the home-from-home atmosphere.

ACTIVITIES AT Chambal Safari Lodge

Chambal is brimming with history as well as wildlife – Chambal and its river and wildlife are mentioned in the Indian epic the Mahabharata, as well as numerous local myths and legends. Head out on the river to see gharials and turtles basking in the warm Indian sun on the riverbanks (if you’re lucky, you may see a river dolphin). Make your way around the ravines and see ancient wonders such as the Citadel of Ater by camel, experiencing panoramic views of the valley along the way, and venture across the wetlands and ravines by jeep to see Sarus cranes and Blackbuck deer.

The village of Rapri, which is nearby, was built in the 12th century and its archaeological attractions include Sufi tombs and the stately Idgah mosque. Further afield, the iconic Taj Mahal is just an hour's drive away.

Back at the lodge, go on an evening nature walk with the resident naturalists, and keep an eye out for palm civet cats, jungle hares and Indian striped hyenas, before gathering round the fire pit and doing some stargazing.
