20 Degres Sud looks out over Grand Baie, a sweeping arc of golden sandy beaches centred around a bustling seaside town of the same name. The hotel’s immediate surroundings are particularly serene - set in a coconut grove, the swaying palm trees add to the air of tropical paradise.

Rooms at 20 Degres Sud

The rooms and suites at 20 Degres Sud are spread across whitewashed wooden buildings with thatched roofs which are inspired by Mauritian Creole architecture. The Charm Rooms overlook the seafront coconut grove, and some have outdoor showers, while the Beachfront Rooms look out over Grand Baie. Suites feature Jacuzzis, Nespresso machines and iPod dock stations, while the ultra-luxe Austral Suites have the added benefit of a private plunge pool overlooking the ocean.

Whichever room type you choose, you’ll find extremely comfortable furnishings and an attractive colonial-style décor, with rich wooden furniture and four-poster beds.

Food & Drink

The hotel’s flagship restaurant, L’Explorateur, is an elegant space overlooking the ocean, where an acclaimed Mauritian chef serves up gourmet cuisine which makes the best of the bounty of the country and coast. The seafood, as you might expect, is particularly good, including a multi-course lobster extravaganza

For a change of scene, at La Voile food is served beside the pool in the shade of a Bedouin tent, or enjoy an evening cruise aboard the hotel's boat the M/S Lady Lisbeth, a beautifully-restored vintage boat, and feast on fresh fish. You can even have breakfast on a floating island in the middle of the bay - a perfect way to start the morning.

Facilities

The hotel’s Secret Spa is well named - nestled in the secluded gardens, it is a haven for pampering, with a traditional Turkish hammam and a poolside relaxation zone.

This is a place to relax in the spa and by the beach, but if you prefer to be active and keep on top of your workout routine, you’ll also find a well-equipped fitness centre here.

Activities at 20 Degres Sud

A range of activities are on offer at to help you explore Mauritius on land and sea. Golfers will be pleased to know there are several courses within reach, including Mont Choisy just down the road, or indulge in water sports such as windsurfing, kayaking, snorkelling and big game fishing. For a more peaceful water-based excursion, traditional barge trips will take you on a sunset cruise around the coast or on a tour of the Northern Islands.

Back on terra firma, horse riding, quad-biking and hiking are all fantastic options for discovering the coastline and coconut groves around the hotel.
