Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Joali sits on Muravandhoo Island, a slice of paradise which is classic Maldives: swaying palms, white-sand beaches and a crystal-clear ocean, however the hotel offers much more besides. From first impressions you will be wowed: sail up to the grand entrance from your seaplane, the manta ray-shaped dock, which has become an emblem of the hotel.

Rooms at Joali

Joali's exquisite and exceptionally spacious villas have soaring arched ceilings, thatched roofs and huge carved wooden screens, alongside bathrooms featuring freestanding tubs hewn from marble. They have been created by a female Turkish designer and they are inspired by femininity, making the interiors truly unique. The attractive colour scheme of dusty pinks and baby blues contrasts complements the rose gold details everywhere, including in the bathrooms and on cocktail shakers and coat hangers, which feature inspirational quotes such as 'the joy of looking amazing' on a coat hanger hung with a hand-printed kimono.

The Beach Villas have infinity pools set in a lush private garden, where you can swim under the stars, while the Water Villas sit right above the ocean, with pools suspended above the sea, outdoor rainfall showers and hanging net hammocks to relax in as you watch the stingrays dart by. The west-facing Sunset Villas have particularly spectacular vistas from a private deck as the sun goes down. All villas have butler service for added indulgence - your butler will run you a petal-filled bath to relax in.

Food & Drink

Joali's flagship restaurant, Vandhoo, is a diverse eatery with a wide-ranging menu which sums up the Maldives’ long history as a meeting place for different cultures and ideas, with Mediterranean, Asian and Chinese dishes all represented. Saoke serves exquisite Japanese food in a floating pavilion above the ocean, while the relaxed Bellinis restaurant offers authentic Italian food and drink, right down to homemade limoncello.

For a unique dining experience, have a memorable meal in a secluded manta ray-shaped treehouse suspended in the palm trees, reached on a winding wooden walkway that leads into the treetops. There is also another version set on the beach - perfect for lounging by the sea.

The Mura Bar is a great place for a light bite or a cocktail on the sand: settle into one of the sunken infinity pods which float amidst the water for sunset music and live performances in the evenings. Or for a quintessentially romantic experience, head to the sandbank on the west side of the beach to sit on a chair created from the sand and sip a glass of prosecco as the sun sets.

Facilities

The fitness centre ensures there’s no need to skip your workout during your stay, with a state-of-the-art gym and a yoga deck facing the rising sun. When it’s time to relax, head to the Joali Spa, where a range of massages, wraps and other treatments are on hand to help you relax and recharge.

Activities at Joali

Learn the secrets of Maldivian cuisine with a cookery class, unleash your inner Picasso in the art studio or spend some time in the Living Room complex, which has a chill-out zone and an entertainment quarter.

With the Indian Ocean all around you, explore it with water sports such as water-skiing and wakeboarding, while scuba diving and snorkelling are great ways to discover the untouched coral reefs and the vibrant creatures that live underwater. Take out one of the complimentary glass-bottomed kayaks, enjoy a leisurely sailing trip on the hotel’s traditional dhoni, or visit nearby islands. Alternatively, simply relax on the beach.

If you have children in tow, they can go on treasure hunts around the island, pamper themselves in the kids spa, enjoy interactive storytelling sessions, chill out in the treehouse and be a junior chef for the day in the kid-friendly kitchen.
