The Lake District

The Lake District is a perennial holiday favourite, and with good reason. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed spot is is named after its many beautiful lakes, including the majestic Windermere, England's largest lake, which is framed by a beautiful backdrop of hills and mountains.

One of the UK's most popular national parks, the Lake District showcases the English landscape at its best. Come here for some peace, tranquillity, fresh air and spectacular scenery - and don’t forget your camera. Hike the many trails around the lakes and hills - there’s something for everyone, from a gentle stroll to a day-long hike. Explore the crystal-clear waters on a cruise, or go canoeing or kayaking. Afterwards, reward yourself with a traditional cream tea while taking in the vistas. As well as the lakes, there are castles and museums to explore, alongside the homes of writer Beatrix Potter and poet William Wordsworth, who found creative inspiration in the area's natural wonders.
