Lydmar Hotel

Location: Stockholm & Central Sweden | Sweden

Price guide: £££££ £100-£200 per person per night

Lydmar Hotel’s exterior may say ‘old town house’ but its interiors scream youthful sensibilities. Enviously poised along Stockholm’s waterfront overlooking the capital’s pretty Old Town, this arty boutique hotel forgoes its conservative apparel and instead embraces its quirkier side. If you like your city-centre hotel to have medusa-like lamps, walls adorned with abstract art and a hip bar where locals gather, then this is the hotel for you.
Perfect forCulturephiles who want to stay in one of the best hotels in Stockholm, with waterfront views of the Old Town and Royal Palace.

Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Located in the capital’s most desirable area, pushed up against the Swedish National Museum and the Grand Hotel.

Rooms at Lydmar Hotel

Individually designed, the spacious rooms have beautiful oak floors, dark slate bathrooms and don’t-want-to-get-out-of deep leather sofas. Some rooms rein in the eccentricities and are dominated by king-size beds, beautiful views and calming décor, while others are an explosion of shaggy white tube lamps, woven wicker furniture and countertops with artfully arranged clutter.
If not for its mini-bar full of yummy local snacks, than book the X-Large room for its enormous sleigh bed and great views perfect for harbour-gazing.

Food and drink

The book and wine lined walls and comfortable seating make the hotel’s restaurant feel like a homey members’ club. Throw in a collection of found objets d’art, some travel mementos and a tasty menu and you have the recipe for a perfect place to spend your evening. Serving European cuisine, you can munch on anything from escargots and swordfish to steak tartar and Sicilian style tuna.
During summer, the patio transforms into a popular haunt, where DJs take over the terrace, garden chairs spread around the fountain and locals converge to sip fruity punches, sherry martinis and rum-laced ginger beers.

Facilities

While staying at the Lydmar Hotel, you can use the Nordic Spa & Fitness, housed in the nearby Grand Hotel. This granite-draped relaxation area has a sauna and swimming pool and offers massages, facials and chiropractic treatments.

Activities at Lydmar Hotel

After spending some time lingering in the lobby, which is an exhibition space for up-and-coming artists and photographers, step outside, skirt the harbour and follow the narrow streets uphill to Stockholm’s colourful Old Town. Tick off the main attractions, the palace, parliament building and main square, before getting a taste of the capital by sampling the typical dishes and traditional cuisine, with breaks in between to experience Stockholm’s famous coffee culture, fika.
If you are looking for a lazy but eventful afternoon, take a boat tour of the scenic archipelago from Stromkajen Harbour, located just 100m from the hotel.
