Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

The location of Palacio Villapanes combines the best of both worlds, occupying a quiet spot a little outside the city centre but still within a short walk of historic sights such as the cathedral.

Rooms at Palacio Villapanes

The hotel’s accommodation is suitably palatial, blending period features with contemporary design touches. Doors are huge and carved from the same dark wood as the beautiful high ceilings, with marble pillars and fireplaces adding a historic air to the larger suites. There’s nothing old-hat about the amenities, though, which include Apple iMacs, state-of-the-art TVs and music systems. The sleek, dark bathrooms are brightened up with colourful wall mosaics, with some featuring large, freestanding bathtubs.

For the best views, opt for the Tower Suite, which is housed in the palace’s dome and has a private terrace overlooking the cathedral and the Giralda.

Food & Drink

The hotel’s restaurant, Los Rincones del Marques, is a beautiful space spread across an indoor dining room and leafy outdoor courtyards. The menu is an authentically Andalucian affair, with sample dishes including oxtail tagine, Galician grilled beef and Iberian pork stew. Food is accompanied by an extensive menu of Spanish wines and, on weekends, a soundtrack of live flamenco music.

The spa is an altogether more modern affair than the rest of the historic hotel – a futuristic space hewn from grey marble and uplit in blue and purple neon. Facilities include a steam bath, massage rooms and a well-equipped gym, so you can work out or relax as you see fit.

There are plenty of gorgeous spots to unwind in after a day’s sightseeing, accompanied by a local guitarist, including the central courtyard, with its fountain and palm trees, the Patio de los Naranjos, where you can sit amongst orange trees, and the rooftop terrace, looking out over Seville, where you can cool off in the pool or enjoy a poolside drink or two.

Activities at Palacio Villapanes

Any tour of Seville’s historic sights should begin with the city’s famous cathedral, the largest Gothic church in the world. It’s particularly famous for its bell tower, the Giralda, which stands at a mighty 105 metres tall. Next, make for the Alcazar, a Moorish palace famous for its shimmering ponds and baths and beautifully landscaped gardens. For a monument to Spanish colonial power, the General Archive of the Indies is a mightily impressive masterpiece of Renaissance architecture.
