Hotel Alfonso XIII

Location: Seville | Spain

Price guide: £££££ £100-£200 per person per night

On Seville's Calle San Fernando, Hotel Alfonso XIII rises like a Moorish castle over one of the city's main streets, populated by tapas bars and jingling horse carriages. A 1929 landmark building that has undergone extensive renovation over the years, the hotel is quintessentially Seville - white walls covered in ornate tiles, detailed pillars and arches, marble floors and pops of colour - it is predominantly blue and yellow throughout, with nods to the city's Moorish influence.

Hotel Overview

Sense of place

The Alfonso XIII is located on the edge of the historic and compact centre of Seville.

Rooms at Hotel Alfonso XIII

Clustered around a courtyard and fountain, the contemporary rooms and suites reflect Andalucian, Castilian and Moorish styles, with wrought-iron balconies that open out onto the gardens, the patio or the sun-baked Seville skyline. The third floor provides the best views over the cathedral; others overlook lush gardens.

Food & Drink

There are several dining spots at Alfonso XIII. The San Fernando restaurant is set in the main courtyard, with wide, arched windows, while ENA is the hotel's tapas restaurant. There's also the pool bar and Bar Americano for sundowners after a day of sightseeing.

Facilities

For hot summer days, the hotel offers a rare oasis in Seville with its large outdoor pool surrounded by picturesque gardens. There is also a beauty salon, a fitness centre and a gourmet shop located in the lobby which sells jam, light snacks and spices. Head to the second floor to sample some local wines in the tasting room.

Activities at Alfonso XIII

The famous cathedral and Giralda are only a few minutes' stroll from the hotel, as are the labyrinth of streets that hide a host of small bars and cafes, and a walk in the other direction will bring you to the beautiful Parque de Maria Luisa and the Guadalquivir.

Stroll down Avenida de la Constitucion to reach the stunning cathedral and Alcazar Palace, then hop over the other side of the river to Triana, the old gypsy quarter. Don't miss the stunning Plaza de Espana; the architectural spectacle created for the 1929 American Exposition.
