Tailor-made Holidays to Russia

For a tailor-made holiday with a difference, Russia offers a wealth of larger-than-life wonders and sheer, shameless grandeur, both above and below ground. Go from St Basil’s Cathedral and the blue hues of Catherine Palace to historic churches and the glittering eggs of the Fabergé Museum, and from the Bolshoi ballet to a metro system which is surely one of the most decadent in the world.

Both Moscow and St Petersburg are full of unique attractions and merit a few days exploring their many sights, while further afield, the Golden Ring offers the chance to see a different side of the country and experience its rich religious history. You can also find some serenity even in the cities in peaceful landscaped gardens. After a day’s sightseeing, relax with some hearty pelmeni dumplings (Russia’s national dish) and a warming glass of vodka, or try the kvass, a traditional drink made with fermented black or rye bread, herbs and spring water.

Highlights of Russia

The Armoury in the Kremlin houses an impressive and wide-ranging collection, from royal costumes and suits of armour to gold artefacts. Constructed in 1851, it is one of the oldest museums in Moscow.

After seeing the sights, head to the rooftop bar at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Moscow for a drink or two accompanied by panoramic views over the city and its iconic landmarks. We recommend trying their signature 'Red Square' cocktail.

Catherine Palace, just outside St Petersburg, is well worth a visit - it is a gem of Russian Imperial opulence and style.

Highlights of the Golden Ring include Sergiyev Posad and its 14th-century monastery complex, the Trinity Monastery of St Sergius, and Suzdal, a former royal capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which has an attractive rural location. The town itself is a museum with medieval churches and enchanting wooden houses.
