Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Herangtunet is in the small village of Heggenes, 200km north of Oslo. It sits on the fringes of Jotunheimen National Park, and is an excellent base for exploring this nature wonderland.

Rooms at Herangtunet

The individual designs of the guestrooms have been inspired by the travels of Marie José and Marco, the owners, all around the world, from cosmopolitan cities to rural icons. All the rooms have garden views and some have fireplaces – we love the Aspen Royal Suite with its rustic-chic interiors of leather, wood and fur. The London Suite is ideal for stylish couples while the Sweden Family Room feels like something straight out of a Carl Larsson painting, and is perfect for families, with its large double room and bunk beds in the connecting room.

Food & drink

Relish Norwegian cuisine in the restaurant with a meal of just-caught and barbecued fish from the lake, or a fresh-from-the-butcher cut of beef. Snuggle up by the wood-burning stove or on the outdoor terrace, and tuck into a grazing board laden with homemade specialties.

Facilities

The sauna and hot tub are a welcome feature of the hotel, particularly after a day out hiking, and are perfect for soothing weary muscles.

Activities at Herangtunet

There’s no staying at Herangtunet without venturing into Jotunheimen National Park, whose name means ‘Home of the Giants’, for its collection of soaring mountains, some of which are the highest in northern Europe. Go hiking and on your way pass serene lakes, waterfalls and glaciers. There are plenty more adventures to be had, whether you’re one for biking, river rafting, canoeing, horse riding or rock climbing. You can also go for a round of golf in Valdres.

In winter, go dog-sledding and sleighing around the magical snow-covered landscapes, and for something a bit different, snow-raft down the slopes in an inflatable boat (daredevils can even do this in the dark - and backwards).
