Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel sits on the Alta riverfront, overlooking a sea of white across Sorrisniva - an ideal location to maximise your chances of viewing the Northern Lights.

Rooms at Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel

Carved from pure ice, room temperatures range from -4 to -7, with beds swathed in reindeer-hide mattresses and extra warm sleeping bags to keep you cosy for a good night’s sleep. Upgrade to a suite for a little added luxury and your own atmospheric ice sculptures.

Food & drink

Dine on up to four courses of locally-sourced produce from the nearby valleys and rivers. Fresh and delicious flavours follow the seasons in the Matkalenderen way, meaning dishes depend on the availability of the ingredients. Fresh rolls and fluffy treats are churned out of the bakery and served to you in the setting of your choice, whether that be the restaurant, by the lake or the fire, or in a tepee. Head to the atmospheric ice bar, carved with frozen sculptures, for a drink on the rocks - literally!

Facilities

Check out what’s probably the chilliest chapel you’ll ever visit. Alternatively, to thaw out after coming in from the cold, warm your feet in a toasty spot in front of the fireplace or visit the sauna.

Activities at Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel

Take a sled and a couple of reindeer or a few dogs to soak up nature’s beauty in the most natural and time-honoured way possible, or if you’re after a faster-paced excursion then there’s the option of a snowmobile safari. You can also choose to experience Mother Nature first hand by spending a night in the wilderness in a lavvu, a typical Sami tent. Of course, the Northern Lights are an unmissable experience and always worth the chase.
