Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Hotel Astoria is housed in the historic 13th-century Buca Palace, a UNESCO-protected site in the walls of Kotor’s old town. The design of the hotel makes the most of its historic location, complementing the original stone walls and features with modern furnishings and design pieces.

Rooms at Hotel Astoria

Given the hotel’s unique location, rooms and suites are all unique and give a sense of what the atmosphere of the palace would have been like when it was built 800 years ago. Walls and ceilings combine the original rough-hewn stone with polished marble, while modern design pieces complement stylish, traditional furnishings. Suites have a view of the bay, while other rooms look out over the mountains and national parkland.

Food and drink

Hotel Astoria’s lounge bar and restaurant serve regional and international cuisine, both traditional and modern, in a stunning location: the restaurant spans two floors and features marble floors, wall frescoes and a tree growing centrally through the stone and glass. Our pick of local restaurants is the high-end Galion, which offers sophisticated seafood dishes overlooking the bay.

Facilities

Kotor’s old town has retained its historical atmosphere in part by forbidding cars from entering, so you will not be able to drive directly to the hotel – however, nearby garage facilities can be arranged on request, as can car rental.

Activities at Hotel Astoria

Kotor’s historical attractions are on your doorstep, including the baroque St. Tryphon’s Cathedral, Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and the Sea Gate, the main entrance to the town which was built in 1555. A short distance away is the beautiful Lovcen National Park, home to Mount Lovcen – the black mountain that gave Montenegro its name – and matching black beech forests, a beautiful area rich in wildlife which is well worth setting aside an afternoon to get lost in.
