Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo

Location: Sicily & Aeolian Islands | Italy

Price guide: £££££ £200-£350 per person per night

Set high in the rocky hills on the east coast of Sicily, Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo has long been known as one of Italy’s most glamorous retreats. The first hotel to be built in Taormina, it stands in the most dramatic of locations: directly opposite the Greek theatre, with sweeping views of the coastline and majestic Mount Etna looming in the distance.
Perfect forCouples, families and culture lovers who want to be centre stage amidst history and nature.
In the knowThis hotel has long been a favourite with stars from Audrey Hepburn to Elizabeth Taylor - and it's no wonder that literary figures have gushed about Taormina's indescribable beauty. For D.H. Lawrence, it was more than just the landscapes that inspired him - it is said that Lady Chatterley's Lover was based on an English woman who was living in Taormina at the time.

Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo is high on a cliffside in Taormina, on the east coast of Sicily.

Rooms at Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo

The rooms and suites at Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo are decorated with flair, evoking the opulence of Italian Baroque. Most have beautiful terraces or balconies, whilst the Presidential Suite has an expansive terrace with a summerhouse, as well as a lounge, a dining room and a small hydro-massage pool.

For extra space and privacy, guests can stay in the Villa Flora annexe just 50 metres away: the suites here have large separate living areas, making them ideal for families.

Food & Drink

Showcasing one of the most magical backdrops – a timeless panorama in which Mount Etna and the bay of Taormina are the stars of the show – the restaurant matches its location with spectacular Sicilian and Mediterranean cuisine. The menu focuses on delicious seasonal produce and local specialities, including Pachino cherry tomatoes, Bronte pistachios, capers from Salina, red garlic from Nubia and fine regional wines such as Nero d’Avola and Moscato di Pantelleria.

During the day you can sit in the shade of a cool pergola, and enjoy lunch by the pool, feasting on a wide range of light snacks, brick-oven pizzas, a salad buffet and a selection of freshly caught fish.

Facilities

As well as cooling off in the pool, the wellness centre is the perfect place to relax and ease your aching feet, with aromatherapy baths, massages and a sauna.

Activities at Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo

Just a short walk from Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo, the sublime beauty of Taormina beckons you to explore. Top of your list will be the wonderfully preserved Greek theatre which now plays host to concerts, ballets and a world-renowned film festival, which takes place in June.
