Perched above Portofino, Belmond Hotel Splendido is as glamorous, elegant and ravishing as the village itself. Once a monastery, the building now devotes itself to more earthly pleasures with exotic gardens, perfect service, and beautiful rooms, most with views to the sapphire ocean below. Enjoy the very best of the Italian Riviera in style.
Perfect forGlamorous types with a healthy appreciation of ‘la dolce vita’.
In the knowIf you prefer to be right in the centre of things, the sister Belmond hotel in this seaside idyll, Splendido Mare, has just 16 rooms and suites and is located right on the waterfront in the heart of Portofino overlooking the Piazzetta and the harbour, where the A-listers hang out and from where you can enjoy boat trips to Cinque Terre. The two hotels are just a five-minute walk apart from each other.

Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

An idyllic hideaway in the north of Italy, Portofino is the place to see and be seen with a long history of celebrity and artistic visitors. Belmond Hotel Splendido is within walking distance to the village but far enough to offer that extra bit of exclusivity.

Rooms at Belmond Hotel Splendido

All of the rooms and suites are elegantly decorated in creams and golds or pinks and blues, with high ceilings and marble bathrooms offering an extra touch of grandeur. Many have private terraces and balconies looking out over the Ligurian Sea and Portofino harbour.

We recommend upgrading to a suite which offers that extra bit of space and comfort. Leave your curtains and blinds open and let daylight wake you up with breathtaking views over Portofino.

Food & Drink

Thanks to Italy’s wonderful climate, you can dine al fresco most months of the year at the renowned La Terrazza restaurant where exquisite seafood specialities, combined with Italian wines and vistas of Portofino Bay, are a must. In the evening, enjoy cocktails in the bar, serenaded by a pianist.

For a change of scenery stroll down to the Chuflay restaurant at Belmond Splendido Mare and enjoy people-watching on the Piazzetta while tucking into a delicious meal. For something unique, you can even enjoy a meal in a lighthouse on a peninsula looking out to sea.

As well as the wellness centre, tennis court and a swimming pool set against a backdrop of palm trees, you can also relax with a yoga class or go on a peaceful stroll through the hotel’s exotic gardens. Don't forget to allow yourself to be pampered with an outdoor spa treatment, surrounded by beautiful vistas.

Activities at Belmond Hotel Splendido

Take a leisurely 10-minute walk to town or hitch a ride on the complimentary shuttle service. Head out on the hotel's private motorboat or hire a yacht for the day to sail along the colourful coastline and the Cinque Terre region, returning to enjoy a drink on the harbourfront.
