2 nightsALBEROBELLO

After flying into Bari, you’ll drive to Alberobello for the first stop on your journey through Puglia. This small town is renowned for its strange trulli buildings, an architectural style unique to this part of Puglia. Each trullo takes the form of a dry stone hut with a conical roof, one of which is your home during your stay in Alberobello. Your hotel, Le Alcove, combines the unique atmosphere of traditional trulli with modern design and luxurious comfort, making for a unique and truly memorable stay. Just over an hour’s drive away in the city of Matera lie the sassi, ancient cave dwellings thought to date from as far back as 7000 BC. A guided tour can teach you some of the secrets of these extraordinary structures, which include rock churches and ancient canals.

2 nightsOSTUNI

The next stop on your adventure is Ostuni, which like Alberobello is famous for its unique architecture. Rather than trulli, however, Ostuni is renowned for its pristine whitewashed buildings. Your hotel, Masseria Salinola, is a prime example of this style and lies in the countryside a few miles outside Ostuni. Making the most of its location in the Puglian countryside, the hotel can organise agricultural activities such as cooking lessons and olive harvesting in the winter months, and their own olive oil is available to purchase. Ostuni’s markets are well worth a visit for more delicious local produce, while the centuries-old Ostuni Cathedral is one of the town’s main historical attractions.

3 nightsSAVALLETRI DI FASANO

After two nights in Ostuni, you’ll drive on to the final stop on your trip, Savelletri di Fasano, and the historic Masseria Torre Cocaro. This restored farmhouse is both rustic and luxurious, and is a short distance from the beach at Fasano. With no fewer than four restaurants, this is another great place to sample the renowned cuisine of the Puglia region, and at the hotel’s cooking school you’ll be guided round the estate, picking fresh vegetables and fruits before learning how to make traditional dishes such as pizza, panzerotti, mozzarella and burrata. A guided gourmet bicycle tour is a great way to get to know the surrounding millennia-old olive groves and farmland, stopping off for some oil tasting and at the fishing village of Savelletri to try some fresh seafood. After three nights at Masseria Torre Cocaro, your Puglian adventure has come to an end and you’ll begin your journey home.
