The five-star Ville sull’Arno is set in pretty olive tree-filled gardens by the River Arno. This is a haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre – but Florence’s many attractions aren’t far away.

The rooms and suites are full of Florentine flourishes such as unique furniture created by Tuscan artisans, and are bedecked in warm woods, wrought iron, Florentine marble and soothing pastel tones of cool river-inspired blue and pastel pink.

The traditional-style rooms in the 15th-century villa overlook the Arno, while the contemporary aquamarine-themed rooms in the Villino Spa come with a Turkish bath or hot tub, and some have terraces looking out over the river. Budding Michelangelos and da Vincis should stay in the Loggia, which celebrates Italian culture, where you’ll find colourful canvases, palettes and brushes hidden in each room, while the colourful themed suites also celebrate the hotel’s artistic heritage.
