Hotel Le Fontanelle is in a secluded, rural location in the Chianti wine region, a 25-minute drive from Siena.

Rooms at Hotel Le Fontanelle

There is just a small number of rooms at Hotel Le Fontanelle, which means you’ll get a really warm and personal service from your hosts. The interiors are wonderfully rustic, with terracotta floors and wooden shutters and beams. In the evenings you can sample a glass of Chianti's finest on your terrace, or in your small private garden. All the rooms have glorious views of the surrounding olive groves and vineyards.

Food & drink

The food is just as delicious as you’d expect – laced with the estate’s olive oil, served in elegant surroundings, and enhanced with views of the countryside.

Dine in style on exquisite Tuscan cuisine, flavoured with herbs from the hotel’s botanical gardens, at the La Colonna restaurant, whose fabulous views can be savoured from the panoramic windows and from the Belvedere terrace, perched above the vineyards of Chianti. In the summer months, guests can enjoy barbecues with live music during the evenings.

The Lounge Bar is a lovely spot for afternoon tea, while there is also a wine bar and shop.

Facilities

To work up an appetite you can do a few lengths in the supremely-located outdoor pool, and there’s also one inside in the gorgeous spa, along with a Jacuzzi and a Turkish bath. Pamper yourself with a massage after a busy day exploring Siena, Florence and the rolling hills of the surrounding countryside.

As well as treating yourself to some wine tasting (it would be rude not to when in Chianti-shire!), there are plenty of ways to appreciate the picturesque surroundings, including zipping around on a classic Vespa and greeting the Tuscan sun with a hot air balloon ride. Go horse riding or explore the scenic trails by mountain bike - borrow one of the hotel's complimentary bikes.

There are charming villages and medieval castles to visit nearby, and there is also a free shuttle to and from the centre of Siena, making it easy to discover this beautiful city.
