Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

COMO Castello del Nero is set in over 300 hectares of private reserve with vineyards and olive groves. It’s not hard to imagine what life would have been like for the castle’s inhabitants back in the 12th century: wander around the serene grounds and you’ll even find a private chapel.

Rooms at COMO Castello del Nero

The hotel has 50 rooms and suites, each decorated in quintessential Tuscan style, with Cotto floor tiles and opulent marble bathrooms. Furnishings are modern and comfortable, but pay tribute to the hotel’s heritage with traditional features such as four-poster beds, beautiful wooden shutters and ceiling beams and marble fireplaces.

The Deluxe rooms offer panoramic views over the countryside, while the suites in the Belvedere building offer amazing views over the Chianti hills and lakes.

Food & Drink

The one-Michelin-starred La Torre Gourmand restaurant offers a unique gourmet experience, using ingredients grown in the gardens and locally. At breakfast you can choose from a variety of hot dishes made to order, with fruits, pastries, cereals and cheeses also available. Lunch and dinner are served in the atmospheric Tuscan restaurant La Taverna, the former castle's kitchen, where you’ll find a selection delicious rustic dishes done supremely well – think hand-made pasta, home-grown olive oil and locally-reared meat.

The wine cellar, accessible via a beautiful ancient stairway, showcases a selection of over 1,000 labels, and cocktails and whiskeys are served throughout the day along with light snacks.

The spa is a lovely place to unwind, with a contemporary design of wood, glass and Italian stone which stands in contrast to the rest of the hotel’s historic atmosphere. Therapies use products which contain botanical essential oils and plant extracts. Unwind further with some yoga in the gardens, and there is also a pool and relaxation area where you can take in the countryside vistas in between treatments.

Meanwhile, the gym and two tennis courts will ensure you can keep on top of your exercise routine while you’re on holiday.

Activities at COMO Castello del Nero

The hotel is 45 minutes from Florence and Siena, and is perfectly situated for exploring Tuscany. Take in the rich artistic and cultural heritage of Florence and see the works of Michelangelo, Raphael and Botticelli at the famous Uffizi Gallery. Be sure to visit the magnificent Duomo, with its gorgeous Renaissance architecture, and the Palazzo Vecchio, where you'll find Roman ruins and a medieval fortress. Siena, Florence’s great historic rival, is home to its own share of Renaissance treasures, including an impressive cathedral, the grand Piazza del Campo and the Libreria Piccolomini.

Chianti, of course, is also famous for its wine - don’t miss the chance to enjoy some tastings in towns like Greve, Castellina and Gaiole. If you visit in November, this is a great time for truffle hunting.

Visit the La Fornace restaurant in nearby Tavernalle Val di Pesa - we highly recommend their pizzas!
